If you’re like many parents, you want your kids to succeed in everything they do, especially when it comes to their education. Some children have no problem with motivation and learning, while others need a gentle nudge in the right direction. If your child is having difficulty with math, you may want to consider a math tutor for them to help before they get too far behind.
Check Grades
The first thing to do is check the grades for your child when they become available. Most schools still send home a report card of some form, but look them up if you have to do so. Check the math grades compared to other subjects and see how well your child is doing. Most report cards still go by A, B, C, D, and F, where A is the best and F is the worst. Some will show percentages. If your child gets mostly As and Bs, there probably isn’t a problem, unless they used to get straight As and now got a B.
No Enthusiasm
A tutor may also be necessary if your child starts disliking school or the particular subject at hand. For example, most elementary school children love to learn new things, such as money, telling time, counting and other math-related options. If your child seems bored or doesn’t want to learn, it could be a signal that they need help.
Teacher Talk
Another way to determine if tutoring would be helpful for your child is to speak to the teacher. Most teachers leave little notes on report cards or in an agenda, but it can be easy to miss them or have them thrown away by the student. Request a time to go in and talk to your child’s teacher, or consider emailing them to determine whether or not tutoring could help.
